We’re putting on a gig TOMORROW!
Muso’s Guide‘s first foray into events is happening in approximately 34 hours now and we’re all so very excited that we thought it necessary to give you lucky readers a quick recap. Be at The Camden Head tomorrow (Tuesday October 13) night at 8pm sharpish, hell buy your tickets in advance from WeGotTickets to avoid disappointment.
And we can exclusively reveal an oh-so-very special offer: if you buy tickets in advance from that above link, you’ll get free entry to the Stylish Riots night at the Barfly this coming Friday (October 16). It’s a bargain at only £4!
It features Bethia Beadman, who reminds me of Chan Marshall and used to play in Courtney Love’s band nonetheless.
It also features Arrows Of Love, who are well primal. Also they’re great and in some sort of weird full-circle contrast, used to be kind of semi known as Hush The Many (Heed The Few), who released an amazing folky single called ‘Revolve’ that was one of my tracks of the year back in 2008 under another guise. This is not a lie.
The headliners are the amazing Extradition Order, who courted a spot of controversy on this very site when they reviewed our reviewist’s review, only for me to review the review of the review. Meta! Click here and then work backwards and then forwards.
Can you sense that I’m about to wet myself here, hmm? I hope so. Now for the FAQ:
When is this wondrous event taking place, remind me? October 13. At 8pm.
Where? The Camden Head, conveniently situated on Camden High Street and was formerly known as Liberties.
And back to the chit-chat:
“What an incredible line-up,” I hear you shout down the street after seeing the posters I’m just about to shove on Camden‘s face. And by jove, you’re right! Doors are at 8 for this wondrous night, and here’s a little more background information on the bands playing. Oh and by the way, you can get tickets from WeGotTickets here, saving yourself a tasty £1 on the door price.
EXTRADITION ORDER
Here is something what they said: “We would like to be precisely incoherent. Somewhere in-between the NY Dolls’ Trash and Fred McDowell’s Shake ‘em On Down. God knows it aint gonna happen.”
They also said this: “We’ve made an album. It sounds different to what we used to sound like. It sounds bigger. Like Russia. Before we were the Balkans. Now we’re Russia. An electronic, post-Xenakis Russia. There are four of us. Not three. We ripped things up and started again last Autumn. It shall be out in the new Autumn. An annual gestation, you see.”
Here is my opinion – I think they sound like a cross between Arcade Fire and Nick Cave, stuck in a cellar and making music in order to get out. That’s what I’ve told all my friends, ’cause it’s true.
ARROWS OF LOVE
According to them: “A revolving array of musicians that have played or still play in Hush the Many (Heed the Few), Turbogeist, Jamie T, Loverman, Courtney Love, Eraserheads, Circulus.”
And according to The Independent, who only two weeks ago named them their Band Of The Week: “Their debut EP ‘Burn This Town’ is a far cry from the assiduous pop of late, and harks back to a grimier time in music, with a threadbare, downhearted disposition of heroic vocals contained into what are quite sensibly arranged, melodious pop numbers.”
BETHIA BEADMAN
A selection of facts for you on the wonderful Bethia Beadman, apart from the fact that she’s the first person that has ever made me recall Cat Power (apart from Cat Power): “She began playing in West Country pubs and on the bandstand bill at Glastonbury. She has been in Courtney Love’s band and in psychedelic, folk rock band Circulus. She has sung in St. Peter’s Basilica, The Vatican, Rome and supported Pete Doherty in Whitechapel.”
“Producers and musicians she has worked with include Mike Bennett (The Fall), Mark Refoy (Spiritualised) and Harvey Brown (Portishead). Best of all she has a band, Adam, Graham and Steve. She also plays with The Arrows of Love and Telesterion.”
See you there!, you lucky scamps!
