New year, new Too Pure Singles Club – twelve 7?s in a number of colours hitting the hall doormat throughout the year. With the advent of mp3s you don’t even need to play them as you’re emailed virtual copies too; keep them pristine for your heirs! Sell them for vast profits and buy a small island! The choice is yours… And this time you can also win all 12 of this year’s releases, just peruse the bit after the review below.
Yellow vinyl this time around so you can stare at it during the grim winter weather and cheer yourself up with thoughts of summer. Alternatively you could listen to the thing and be equally cheered.
Sheffield’s Seize The Chair may have titled their side of the single ‘I Just Want To Sleep’ but there’s no chance you’ll either want to or be able to when the needle hits the disc, such is the buzz that the song elicits. Pogoing around and bouncing off the walls is the only sane reaction to this five minutes of indie bombast that never outstays its welcome.
Coupled with fellow Sheffield inhabitants Best Friends‘ ‘When Christmas Comes’ this is definitely one of the best releases of this year’s edition of the club. Catchy and maybe just a wee bit cynical about the whole Xmas deal as it’s forced in our faces currently this is an enjoyably sharp couple of minutes of punky pop perfection.
Each of the singles club releases is a limited edition. Of the 12 we have as a prize, however, two discs have the same number from their respective batches. To be in with a chance of winning all you have to do is guess what that number is, from within the range 100 to 300. Answers should be submitted on Twitter in the format @musosguide ‘Your Answer’.
The competition runs from Noon on December 11 until 17:00 on December 20, after which time a winner will be selected, contacted via Twitter and the prize posted out directly after Christmas in order to try and avoid undue delay in it arriving. As usual this competition is not open to contributors to Muso’s Guide or associated individuals.
