New year, new Too Pure Singles Club – twelve 7″s in a number of colours hitting the hall doormat throughout the year. With the advent of mp3s you don’t even need to play them as you’re emailed virtual copies too; keep them pristine for your heirs! Sell them for vast profits and buy a small island! The choice is yours …
Sealings hail from Brighton, are a trio and deliver a supremely dark and moody slice of JAMCesque punk on the August singles club release from Too Pure. As befits the tone of the works on offer here in the shape of ‘My Boyfriend’s Dead’ and b-side ‘Hey Bernice’ the vinyl’s good old fashioned black. As black as the souls of those purveying the doom-laced a-side.
‘Hey Bernice’ has a bit more spring in its step in musical terms but the vocals are on the same cooly mood-laden setting as on the other side of the disc. Dig that jangle in the guitar and the pounding drums just before the abrupt stop at the track’s end. Either way – these guys are on to something.
