Those Dancing Days, Glasgow The Captain’s Rest

Those Dancing Days
November 30th, 2008
On tour in support of their In Our Space Hero Suits album, Stockholm’s current hottest sisters of pop, Those Dancing Days, are here playing the final date on their short UK tour before hitting Copenhagen in six days time. Their unbounded energy and ear for as-yet-uncoined pop hooks has seen them slowly but surely gain a worldwide fanbase, particularly in the last few months following their initial record release, the ‘Those Dancing Days EP’.
The venue itself is an intimate basement room, recently added to Glasgow’s already impressive list of venues. On what was a busy night in the city for gigs, a near capacity crowd still managed to turn out and clearly know what to expect. What they get is a pleasingly energetic performance (particularly from the dynamic Cissi on drums and the human pogo-stick that is Lisa on the keyboards) with few breaths between songs, which sees pretty much every track on the album getting an airing. The crowd are enthusiastic, if not energetic, in their support and the sound system is well balanced so the earache experienced in similar halls isn’t an issue. T-shirts are sensibly priced at ten pounds.
The unfortunate aspect of the evening is the inability of scheduled support act Sky Larkin to make their slot due to broken transport. Last-minute replacement duo First Tiger (a little bit like a Glaswegian Herman Dune) stepped into the breach but were hampered by persistent tuning problems and were overheard afterwards to describe their half hour as “a nightmareâ€. They looked worth a second viewing, though.
