I'm glad I'm not the only person who sees Madness's excellent album The Liberty Of Norton Folgate as a contender in the 'oldie makes unexpectedly good album' category, not that the Mercury Prize has categories like that. If there's a spot for 'pulling off a concept album without being dull' it might sneak in that way too. The only other contender I can see for such a slot would be the Duckworth Lewis Method's eponymous album.

So Madness to be in the 12, but I can't see them winning it, despite the critical acclaim and commercial success the album has deservedly garnered.
