Tasseomancy
is a continuation of what was a bare bones neo-folk duo. Formerly known as Ghost Bees, Canadian twins Sari and Romy Lightman have found a heavier, more ambient sound, ripe with dreamy, dissonant vocals, influenced by eastern song, drone music, phonography and myth. … Continue Reading

Video: Gruff Rhys – Honey All Over

June 7, 2011 Videodrome No Comments

Sugar sweet ‘Honey All Over’ is one of the many highlights of Gruff Rhys‘ recently released, heartwarming solo album, Hotel Shampoo. The record was born out of Gruff actively embracing piano ballads and middle age in the wake of his fortieth birthday, as well as a personal quest for catharsis of a 15-year habit of acquiring wasteful complimentary hotel products whilst on tour. Hotel Shampoo has been heralded as Gruff’s most ambitious and fully realized album yet, while ‘Honey All Over’ is one of the most infectious ballards on the record. … Continue Reading

Video: The Travelling Band ‘Fairweather Friends’

May 24, 2011 Videodrome No Comments

A recording project in New York City in 2006 led a collective of like minded souls The Travelling Band to record what was to become Under The Pavement, their debut studio album. Released two years later, the record was very well received by the UK media, gaining BBC Radio 6 ‘Album of The Day’, BBC Radio 2’s ‘Single of The Week’ and a featured song in the Ian Dury biopic ‘Sex Drugs & Rock n Roll’.

Although, as The Sun says, “This debut blurs the folk/rock boundaries, delicately intertwining sensitive lyrics with accomplished folk vocals and jangly instrumental accompaniments to form a tapestry of glittering whimsy”, their 10 track second album demonstrates a giant leap forward for the band. Set for a 30 May UK release, Screaming Is Something, which isn’t quite soul music, isn’t quite folk, isn’t quite pop, country or rock, is something that we’re all talking about. Below is the new video for single, to be found on the new album, ‘Fairweather Friends’.

Video: Domination ‘Follow The Leader’

May 22, 2011 Videodrome No Comments

Within a year of releasing her first mixtape, Domination, 19-year-old Tampa Bay rapper Dominique Young Unique has gone from rapping in the courts of her Robes Park Projects in Miami to playing a world-wide stage, performing alongside the likes of N.E.R.D, Big Boi, Die Antwoord and Gucci Mane.

Teaming up with producer David Alexander (Yo Majesty), she has a taste for rapid-fire raps and high-speed electro club beats. Youthful, raw and full of bite, this 19 year-old is crashing onto dancefloors with her militaristic mash-up of club and hip-hop. It’s been a busy year for the up and coming rapper, with the release of the ‘Glamorous Touch’ mixtape, a SXSW takeover and a whirlwind of performances all over the US including opening for Big Boi, Girl Talk and Sleigh Bells. Here we have an exclusive sneak peek at her video for new single ‘Follow The Leader’.
