R. Kelly set to play first UK tour in 8 years

February 27, 2010 News Comments
R. Kelly

R. Kelly

We’ve just found out that the incredible R.Kelly has announced dates where he’ll hit the UK for the first time since 2002, taking on Manchester, London (twice!) and Wolverhampton.

His first UK shows were at the Hammersmith Apollo way back in 1992, and it’s where he’ll be again come April. It’s a revisiting of his peak, through shows that’ll hopefully blow our minds.

Think about a 20-year career taking in such heights as ‘She’s Got That Vibe’, ‘Bump ‘n’ Grind’, ‘Ignition (Remix) and the frankly barking Trapped In The Closet series and we’re pretty sure you’ll find yourself in a tizz about the whole thing. … Continue Reading

New High Places record in April

High Places vs Mankind

High Places vs Mankind

Mary Pearson and Rob Barber, also known as High Places, are gearing up to release their second full length album this spring. It’ll be called High Places vs. Mankind and will be released on April 6th on Thrill Jockey.

High Places vs. Mankind certainly looks to be a progression from their early singles and their debut album, with more standard instrumentation and vocals higher in the mix. The old High Places mix of sounds and influences still remain, however. The press release sez:

“Mary and Rob are tackling the complex, gigantic subject of being human and what it’s like to interact with other human beings. The album’s subject matter covers a wide range; from romantic relationships to overcoming addiction, aging, and finally death in the closing track ‘When It Comes’.”

Lily Allen

Lily Allen

So it seems Lily Allen’s still going to be on our radars, in spite of whatever may or may not have happened last week. We know this because she’s announced two co-headline dates, in conjunction with Dizzee Rascal, for next March.

The gruesome twosome’ll be hitting Manchester MEN Arena on March 5 2010, and London’s sickeningly large O2 Arena on March 7.

“I’m really looking forward to playing these special shows – I’m a massive fan of what Dizzee does,” says Lily.

Dizzee says: “Lily and I have both worked well in the past so its no doubt these shows will be nights to remember.” … Continue Reading

Ash

Veterans of the music world Ash are breaking the mould yet again, this time announcing a 26-date UK tour covering cities beginning with ‘A’ and ending in ‘Z’.

Working alphabetically through the towns and cities of the British Isles from Aldershot to Zennor, Ash will be dropping in on the UK’s lesser-visited concert venues.

Exotic locations like Ventnor (that’s on the Isle of Wight), The Havana Club (in Jersey), Upper Norwood (South London of course…) and the Devonshire seaside town of ‘eXmouth’, will be among those experiencing a rare visit from a major touring act; and who better to ‘bring the rock’ than the acclaimed live act and hit factory that is Ash? … Continue Reading
