The Hot Five – My views on five tracks that have attracted my interest in any given week, usually with an older track thrown in the mix for something a bit different. Tracks usually concentrate on guitar-based releases, but really focusing on anything and everything that comes to my attention. … Continue Reading

Mark Gardener, Edinburgh, Cameo Cinema Bar

Anyone Can Play Guitar

By Kenny McMurtrie

November 29, 2011

When was the last time Mark Gardener was asked to turn it down by an annoyed old biddy? Probably not for many a year yet that’s what happened here tonight. Mid-way through his short semi-acoustic set a sinister silver-haired figure was seen to scurry in through the street door of the bar and engage the bar staff in animated conversation and two songs later it was all over. Fair enough – Midnight wasn’t far off and he’d only one more number up his sleeve but still, doesn’t a nice bloke occupying his place in the rock pantheon deserve some more respect? Clearly not from Supergran. … Continue Reading

Radiohead – TKOL RMX 1234567

Radiohead - TKOL RMX 1234567

By Greg Salter

TKOL RMX 1234567 is a compilation of the remix 12s that Radiohead have been gradually releasing over the last few months, since their eighth album, The King Of Limbs, arrived in February. With the 19 tracks on offer here, the band have done a pretty good job of bringing together many of the most exciting names in (UK based mainly) forward-looking dance music. For its first half or so, The King Of Limbs already sounded like it had one foot on the dancefloor (albeit in a very ‘Radiohead’,
creepy-guy-on-the-dancefloor kind of way
) – it twitched rather than raved, and many listeners may have seen this remix series as a way of pushing the band all the way into the dance/electronica genres that they’ve always insisted on folding into largely traditional song structures. … Continue Reading

Radiohead – The King Of Limbs

March 2, 2011 Album, Reviews 2 Comments

A lot has already been said about whether the eight tracks in front of us today are all we can expect from Radiohead in the next six months, surely they are up to something, three plus years for less than 40 minutes etc etc. For now, let’s eat what’s on the plate and then deal with what’s for dessert or seconds if/when that comes. … Continue Reading

Leeds Festival

By now, presumably, the hazy memories of Leeds and Reading will have begun to return for the thousands of revellers who attended the twin festivals over the weekend and, on site, the portaloos will merely be smouldering rather than blazing. For those that want more flag-free music-in-a-field experiences, or for those who watched it on the TV and experienced pangs of envy, a limited number of tickets have been made available for 2010 at this year’s prices.
