Seminal record label Rough Trade has resurrected the humble cassette – a format considered to be retro and almost obsolete in these days of CDs and mp3s.

On Saturday April 18th, in honour of Record Store Day, Rough Trade will release a limited edition compilation on tape for just 99p. Called C09, with a nod to the NME’s classic C86 indie compilation, Rough Trade’s tape features exclusive tracks from its artists Micachu and The Mystery Jets, as well as selected songs from British Sea Power, Super Furry Animals and The Veils. There’s also a special secret track, by an as yet unconfirmed band, which opens the record.

C09 will be available from all good independent record stores, just like in the olden days.
