Great review Mr Salter.

We took a friend along who had been living in a hermitude for the last 7 years and had never heard of Wolf. I got several texts from him this morning that went along the lines of "My life is changed" and "I want to do somthing great in the world". These texts, I contest, truly encapsulate the experience of a Patrick Wolf show. With everyone left in a dizzying haze of euphoria on the train home, I myself experienced an epiphany of happiness, love and (oddly) Christmassy joy all rolled into one. Such was the inspiration, that upon getting home with a bottle of chocolate wine frozen to my hand, I started a romantic epic based on the life of a house mouse.

I have never been to any other gig that has done this to me (except, of course, his Sheperds Bush grander finale two years ago).

Certainly not! To be honest, I've heard all three levelled at Patrick as insults in the past, in the press where his name is always preceded by 'flamboyant' or 'gay', and I've seen more disparaging remarks about his sexual orientation, background and appearance online and when I tell people that I'm a fan. I was trying to counteract the eye-rolling and preconceptions that occur when some people are reading reviews/articles on him. I think the rest of my review makes my feelings about Patrick and his music clear (I'm a huge fan) and, as a fan, I'm aware of the kind of flack he gets, unfortunately.

Where does he get flack for "being gay, posh and dressing like an idiot"?
Or is that a veiled personal opinion?
