Wild Beasts - Two Dancers

These lists are strange things, for sure, but we couldn’t have been happier than when our writers collaboratively decided that Wild Beasts’ Two Dancers was their album of the year, as revealed just now here.

So what are Tom Fleming’s (bass/vocals) thoughts on being named, ahem, ‘The Best’?

“It’s very nice. I suppose we can show it to people who’ve never heard of us and say ‘look! We’re good, see?’ As you suggest, ‘the best’ is a difficult thing to call anything, but it’s a big old compliment.”

Did they have any idea that Two Dancers would do so incredibly well this year?

“We made the album with no real expectations, and had no idea so many people would take to it. The album was a series of happy accidents and coincidences, and as such there was only so much we could ask of it. We were happy with it once we’d finished, but you never know how things will go. Honestly, we were sort of wondering whether or not we’d get chance to make the next one.”

And what are Wild Beasts’ own albums of 2009?

“We’ve been hitting Dirty Projectors, Mount Eerie, Animal Collective, The XX, Antony & The Johnsons, Junior Boys. We’ve been doing a load of old stuff as well – Karen Dalton, chanson singers, house music and stuff. It’s been a good year for discoveries.”

Thank you, kind modest chaps, for making such a wonderous album. We’ll be on the edge of our seat for whatever comes next.

'cause she considers the term 'music snob' redundant, because her music taste is infinitely better than yours and because she likes words a bit too much. She formulates and promotes the inaugural, seminal Muso’s Guide Presents… shows in London and is also the ears, keys, and mouse-clicker responsible for Muso’s Guide’s Last.fm charts.
