Now Playing: Noisettes – ‘I Want You Back’
Now Playing – every week, a roundtable of our writers will give their views on one of the recently-released new tracks. It’s as simple as that! If you want to tell us what you think of the song, feel free to leave a comment below.
Track: ‘I Want You Back’ by Noisettes
Average grade: 5.2
Tom: It’s hard to see the point of the Noisettes track. It shamelessly rips off the Doctor Who theme, discarding en route any traces of charm, originality or of course radiophonics, and staples autotuned vocals on the top that sound like cut price Madonna. This may be the sound of the autumn, but it doesn’t make it any less of waste time. 2/10
Kenny: Pleasantly surprised that I liked the music here, having basically written the duo off years ago. Not so into the vocals, however. Catchy enough that it’ll probably chart and I expect will have crossover appeal for both Radio 1 and Radio 2, as well as the advertising world. 5/10
Craig: Girl’s got some pipes, yeah? Definite feel-good disco pop with a legitimate soul. Why aren’t we all dancing? 7/10
Anna: Noisettes know how to write a good pop song and this one is no exception. It doesn’t quite carry their usual punch but it gets stuck in your head faster than you can mumble ‘synthpop’. Extra point for the greatly layered and arranged backing vocals. 7/10
Stef: I like the spunky start of it, but it does feel it kind of loses a bit of steam at the end. I guess that’s why a good radio tune used to be 2:30 or something, no? 5/10
