Jim O’Rourke, experimental musician, producer and, until recently, Sonic Youth collaborator, will release a new album on August 31st. Entitled The Visitor, it will be released on Drag City, his first on that label since 2001’s Insignificance.

Details on the record are scarce at the moment, though the title could be a reference to the 1976 film The Man Who Fell To Earth, which starred David Bowie and directed by Nicholas Roeg. O’Rourke does have a history of using Roeg-inspired album titles – all his other albums for Drag City were named after Roeg films.

Bearing in mind that O’Rourke’s previous albums have included collaborations with Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, alongside the work he’s done recently with Joanna Newsom, Sonic Youth and Merzbow, The Visitor could see further guest appearances. For now, though, there’s just a title and a release date.
