Glassyouth

Glassyouth are a five-piece band from Barnsley (Previously known as The Headliners) who are set to bring freshness to the charts with a sound they describe as ‘light-hearted northern grime’.  It is collaboration of all 5 members having different tastes; from the 60s, 70s and through to modern alternative and dance.

The band have spent some time perfecting their sound. Having caught them in Sheffield back in 2006 as The Headliners we immediately took to their sound and style and are pleased to see that they have now been given the opportunity to make a career out of it. We caught up with band member Oliver last week who told us:

“We started about 3 years ago at college. Me and Sean started it with Pat, and Leroy who we knew from school. We started playing covers, asked Sam if he fancied a go, and we did a gig two weeks later. It was a horrendous gig, but we loved it anyway so started to write our own tunes.”

It may have been horrendous, but practice and hard work have paid off; they have played shows with the likes of The Holloways, The Pigeon Detectives, Mark Ronson, The Bravery and The Maccabees to name but a few. To add to their list of achievements they also opened T4 On The Beach last summer, which they describe as the highlight of their career so far, and have worked with producer Alan Smyth (who has also worked with Arctic Monkeys). Quite an experience for such a new band.

Intrigued? Latest single ‘Run’ is about “not running from your problems, and standing up to them. It’s quite a dark song, but with lighter music”. With a debut album Never See, Never Learn in the pipeline, set for release in September, you can catch Glassyouth promoting and playing tracks from it on their UK tour supporting Wolf Am I, between July 17 and throughout August.

We predict that this band has a bright future ahead. They have the likeability factor, with an individual vocal sound and a positive edge to their lyrics. Keep an eye out for these boys.
