Manic Street Preachers’ decision to revisit the lyrics of Richey Edwards earlier this year for Journal For Plague Lovers was a risky one, but judging on the album’s reception, it paid off. And now, as the band bring their new album to a range of festivals over the summer, Nicky Wire has hinted at what’s to come from the band.

Speaking to XFM, Wire suggested that the new record might be:

“Heavy metal Tamla Motown. Van Halen playing The Supremes! I know there’s a lot of creativity in us and obviously because I didn’t write lyrics on the last record, I’ve got tons of words done. I know we’re not gonna be short of material, but obviously it’s got to be different to Journal For Plague Lovers.”

Judging on the new material and their live show, the band certainly sound revitalised. The band still have few remaining festival shows this summer:

19 Jul 2009 Nano Mugen Yokohama Arena
20 Jul 2009 Nano Mugen Yokohama Arena
4 Aug 2009 Lokerse Feesten Lokeren, Brussels
15 Aug 2009 Sziget Festival Budapest
22 Aug 2009 Parkenfestivalen Bodø
