HBO are making a film of legendary comedian Sam Kinison. Directed by Liar Liar and Bruce Almighty director Tom Shadyac, Brother Sam will star Dan Fogler as the one-time preacher. Fogler’s acting work is mainly on the stage although he appeared in recent films Balls of Fury and Good Luck Chuck.

Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, the writer-directors of American Splendor have written the script based on the book Brother Sam: The Short, Spectacular Life of Sam Kinison, by his brother Bill Kinison, and Steve Delsohn.

Kinison was a Pentecostal preacher before becoming an acerbic and controversial comedian acting as a particular influence on Bill Hicks. Kinison was killed in a car crash in 1992 at the age of 38.
