I mean no offence by this, but the Single most common fallacy that reviewers go with is that Brian Wilson was trying to top Sgt. Pepper with the idiosyncratically titled "SMiLE" album, when in reality he was attempting to top "Revolver". You only need to see the recording dates to see that he began recording the SMiLE works in mid to late 1966, just before The Beatles had even began recording SGT. Pepper album.

The only link between the two is that Brian Wilson is famously said to have heard "Strawberry Fields Forever" on his car radio, and had to stop his car so as to listen to it properly. In his frail mind frame he felt (wrongly, I believe) that the Beatles had somehow beaten him to it, with their new sound.

I hate to come across as some nitpicker but It's just that this common view, re: SGT Pepper and SMiLE, is not accurate, and like anything historically inaccurate, it's hard to ignore when so many state it as fact.

Hi Mitchell
Great review of a beautiful record.
It's going to be my Classic Album of the week on my radio show.
Playing: Disney Girls, Till I Die and the beyond sublime title track, which really is as good as it ever gets.
Thanks for a couple of pointers.
Steve
