The Muso’s scribes have been good enough to once again combine forces and continue their yearly undertaking of coming up with the list of albums that they feel have made the most impact in the past 12 months so below you’ll find what made it in to the upper reaches of the chart. … Continue Reading

Scott Walker – Bish Bosch

And nobody

          waited for

          Fire

- ‘The Day the “Conducator” Died (An Xmas Song)’

I’m not sure anyone actually anticipates a new record from Scott Walker. That’s not to say there’s nothing to anticipate; since his breakthrough in the mid-60s as one-third of The Walker Brothers, Scott has garnered a huge following; initially for his emotive, honeyed voice, and then increasingly with each release for his bold, idiosyncratic approaches to songwriting and arrangement. But since 1984′s Climate Of Hunter, his output has been sporadic, and each new recording has seemed to appear suddenly; an unexpected guest at the dinnertable. … Continue Reading

Single Review: Padded Cell – Guardians Of The Night

December 7, 2012 Reviews, Single No Comments

December 07, 2012

I don’t really know what ‘space-funk’ is. I don’t really know what an mp4 is. Now I’m beginning to understand. Set to a psychoactive video of spirals, caricature-masked figures and negative-enhanced video, Padded Cell’s upcoming release begins to make me ‘understand’. … Continue Reading

Live Review: The Fall – Brudenell Social Club, Leeds.

December 6, 2012 Gig, Reviews No Comments

The Fall

By Hayley Scott

The Fall have never been a band with an aim to please the masses. In fact, if anything they’ve striven for quite the opposite while inadvertently building a truly zealous fan base in the process. You’d be forgiven for thinking otherwise judging by the brimming state of the Brudenell this evening, but the sold out show is filled by both long-time devotees and curious bystanders devoid of any preconceptions and ready to be either converted or abhorred. … Continue Reading

Shearwater, The Garage, London

December 4, 2012 Gig, Reviews 1 Comment

By Andrew Seaton

November 24, 2012

So rushing across Highbury Crescent (Apple Maps is TERRIBLE – #firstworldproblems) we just about make it to the Garage. It’s a decent venue with pints at an extremely reasonable £4.50 (#sarcasm….no more hashtags, I promise). So a white, middle-class crowd have already staked their claim in front of the stage, on walks everyone’s favourite ornithologist and we’re away. … Continue Reading

Orbital, Picture House, Edinburgh

December 3, 2012 Gig, News, Reviews 3 Comments

December 02, 2012

Not a lot seems to have changed in the 15 years since I last saw Orbital but they’ve certainly got louder. Tonight’s set was delivered at ear-ringing volume, particularly ‘Beezledub’ & ‘Lush 3’, and the crowd couldn’t get enough of it. Called back at the end of the show for two encores the Hartnoll brothers were clearly moved by the rapturous appreciation and having as good a time as the heaving mass they were leading along. Add to this mix a first class visual array and a myriad of well used mini spotlights and you come away with a gig of the highest calibre. … Continue Reading
