Blonde Acid Cult - Calypso

This is a pretty poorly named band with a passable take off of the Kasabian sound that has absolutely nothing to do with the musical style implied by its title. I expect there are hundreds of bands in the country (and especially Greater Manchester and Liverpool) churning out this kind of stuff to no greater or worse effect. Very forgettable on the whole.

In the interest of a broader appreciation of the band I looked them up on MySpace and stand corrected as to their home town, which turns out to be New York. Previous single ‘Shake It Loose’ features on their page and is a superior effort to ‘Calypso’, despite the lead singer wearing moccasins in the video … The video itself is a very JAMC-looking blokes live in a performance space affair with Madchester fringes, stripy shirts and Ramones clones filling out the band’s line-up. Overall though, I don’t predict great things for them… at least over this side of the Atlantic.
